What does ‘Super Greens’ taste like?

Super Greens is packaged is a 100% vegetarian capsule, made from plant cellulose. This capsule has no discernible taste, and likewise masks any taste of the ingredients used inside almost completely. Occasionally, capsules will have a light aroma and taste from the ingredients. For Super Greens, this will be a grassy, green scent, reminiscent of seaweed and wheatgrass.

The Brothers Apothecary Super Greens capsules combine a blend of powerful superfoods, including Spirulina, Chlorella, and Wheatgrass. Each has been chosen for it’s nutrient-dense profile, including their variety of vitamins, minerals, and other secondary plant metabolites such as chlorophyll and phycocyanin.

Here’s a bit more information about each ingredient:

Spirulina (arthrospira platensis) is blue-green algae that grows in both salt and freshwater. It has been used used for centuries by the indigenous people of Mexico, Africa, and Asia as a source of protein and other vital nutrients, and modernly it is cultivated and used as a source of nutrition all over the world. Spirulina is plentiful in bodies of water that are alkaline and warm, mostly found in lakes and inland bodies of water. It is high in amino acids and rich in essential vitamins and minerals, as well as the antioxidant phyocyanin, which gives it its blue-green color.

Chlorella is green freshwater algae with over 30 different known species, and many scientists believe it to be among the world’s oldest living organisms. Like Spirulina, it is a densely nutrient rich superfood, with high amounts of vitamins and minerals. It is often added to smoothies, drinks, capsules, and blends of spices. In Super Greens, we specifically use organic Chlorella cultivated in concrete-lined ponds in a pristine area in Japan. Additionally, this chlorella has a cracked outer cell wall, which enhances digestibility.

Finally, our Wheatgrass comes from freshly sprouted shoots of non-GMO wheat, specifically the species Triticum aestivum. Wheatgrass is known for its nutritional value and reputation as a superfood, and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is interchangeable with barley grass. Like Spirulina and Chlorella, Wheatgrass is also high in antioxidants, as well as a high content of organic phosphates. Wheatgrass is usually consumed as a fresh juice, but also commonly made into a powder. It’s also worth noting that wheatgrass is the youngest leaves of wheat, and while it is part of the wheat plant, it is generally considered gluten-free and safe to consume on a gluten-free diet (always speak to your doctor first!).

When should I use Super Greens?

We suggest taking Super Greens daily, in addition to your daily servings of veggies. It is a great way to add extra antioxidants into your diet! Generally, we recommend starting with 1-2 capsules per day, ideally taken on an empty stomach or 30 minutes – 2 hours before a meal.

Blue Green Algae is harvested and dried for this deep green superfood. Highly concentrated with amino acids and essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid. High content of essential vitamins & minerals.

Wheatgrass
A combination of freshly sprouted wheat shoots, known for its nutritious qualities. Wheatgrass has a high content of antioxidants and organic phosphates.

Chlorella
Chlorella Vulgaris is a single celled algae and is considered to be one of the Earth’s oldest living organisms. It is known for its healthful qualities & is an excellent source of nutrition.

Coconut Milk Powder
Freshly pressed coconut milk. Supports cannabinoid bioavailability & rich in iron, fiber & magnesium, and antioxidants like selenium.

Yuca Root
The root of the Cassava plant. Used to produce tapioca maltodextrin, which prevents caking & clumping.

Acacia Fiber
A water-soluble dietary fiber exuded from the acacia tree. Sourced from small organic farms.
